Subject Line: Overwhelmed Academically
Hi Prof. Sample (or one of the academic advisement staff),

My name is Tia Trojan, and I am taking your course USC 101. I have been struggling to manage my coursework recently and have started to feel overwhelmed. (If you want to you can then add something like: "I have been struggling because I have been sick" or "I have been struggling because I have had stress from family issues", but you don't have to explain in the first email if that is too stressful) I would appreciate it if you could help me with my issues by connecting me to someone who can give me some academic advising or help me figure out how to manage my workload. (You can also ask for their help if that's better for you) I look forward to hearing from you and would really appreciate some help.

Thanks,
Tia Trojan

Course Questions
Hi Advisor Sample,

My name is Terry Trojan, and I am a first year graduate student in Sample Department. I am currently a little confused about my current (or planned) courses. Could you help me understand what I am supposed to take. Could we meet and discuss my issues? (Alternatively, just list your questions in the email) I look forward to hearing from you and would really appreciate some help.

Thanks,
Terry Trojan
